Hand cranking the 2.6 is not the easiest thing to do, very impressed.  :fing02
My son just installed all the parts for the hand crank on his `63 beetle, fun party trick.  :popcorn

Nicely done, a very satisfying way to get the engine running!

I had a month or so period when going to school in St. John's, the starter had packed up and I didn't have the time/effort/funds to get it rebuilt. Was still able to get around using the starting handle or parking on hills(easy to do in St. John's).
I always had much more success with the handle when the engine was cold.
