Labour Day 2012 - Gaspereau Valley
« on: July 12, 2012, 12:03:18 AM »
Labour Day 2012
Returns to the Gaspereau Valley
Wolfville, Nova Scotia
August 31 to September 3, 2012

Once again for 2012 the Maritime Organization of Rover
Enthusiasts (MORE) Labour Day event will be in and around
Wolfville, Nova Scotia. This is the fourth time since 1999
that we, Julie and Peter Rosvall, have invited members of
the Land Rover community to camp, eat, relax, offroad and
sit by the campfire on our property in the Gaspereau Valley.
With the help of fellow Rover owners in our neighbourhood
we will invite folks from across the Maritimes, New England,
points west and internationally to our home.

Like last year Kris Lockhart has been scouting and doing trail
maintenance for so long already that the local joke is that he
might have them paved if we don't watch out. All trailheads
will be within 5 minutes of our property, and will have lots of
options for every driving preference. We will even be
adding a wine tour to the mix this year, since the impromptu
excursion last year was such a hit with the non-offroaders.

Rosie Browning is taking the lead on food again. Oddly
enough she has promised less desserts, and less food in
general. May seem a bit strange, but if you experienced the
food heaven of last year, and the threats that had to be
made when folks tried to refuse leftovers at the end of the
weekend, it all makes sense. Real roast beef and turkey
sandwiches are still on the menu, and I have received the
message, MORE BEEF JERKY. Rosie will be helped by a
team of my relatives, Rover owners and our neighbours. All
meals from Friday evening to Sunday night are provided on
site, and the food will be amazing.

I'm sure we'll have the Barr family put to work on this and
other logistical details, and the Rudermans as well, and
anyone else we can sucker in to volunteering leading up to
the event and during. (willing volunteers can contact me
using the coordinates below)

Camping for the event will be on our property; tents will be
setup among the cherry and pear trees, bordered by
blackberry bushes. A large field will accommodate larger
trailers, and sheltered wooded areas are easily accessed for
those who would like to pitch their tent away from the
action. We will have running water, clean portable toilets,
and simple shower facilities onsite.

For those who prefer a bed and breakfast, hotel or motel,
there are many to choose from within 15 minutes of home
base. Please email me for recommendations.

A small garage space is available onsite for repairs, as well
as two other Rover owners? garages within a few minutes of
home base if overflow is needed.

Labour Day is a family event; a central fire pit sits in the
middle of the orchard for nightly bonfires. There may be
the opportunity for tubing on the Gaspereau River for those
interested. Local farmer?s markets, wineries, gold courses,
wool shops, vintage British motorcycle parts suppliers,
incredible local craftspeople and more scenery then you
could imagine are right at our doorstep.

I don't have an LR (yet) but I do have camping gear (Tent, sleeping bags, lamps etc...), can we come? Would love to get my 5 year old daughter get on board a series for a light trail.  :photo I'm assuming we can park somewhere which does not require 4Lo.  :what

I'm not hosting the rally, but I believe they are generally open to anyone with an interest in Land Rovers, especially if indoctrination of the next generation is involved!  Yes, there is some parking at Rosvalls which doesn't require 4lo!  See you there.

Back from a non-stop work week in Halifax, and now ready to commit 100% of my time to Labour Day prep.  All are welcome to the event, you just need to have an interest in Land Rovers, or the potential for it.  Very excited to have new folks involved.  It is a great family weekend.  I will post as soon as the registration page is online, should be shortly.

Trail scouting is in full swing in the Gaspereau Valley.  Three trucks left this morning to find the perfect mix of trails for Labour Day.  Tonight we start our test kitchen for Labour Day meals.  We will be slow smoking burgers tonight, as I'm sure you'll all appreciate, we want your meals at Labour Day to be perfect, it is a horrible chore for us, but we'll survive.  Rosie is testing salads, and I'm hoping she will do the same with a dessert, even though she didn't mention it...

As of this moment we have 21 early registrants for Labour Day 2012.  Don't forget, by registering today you make it way easier for Rosie to plan food and for me to plan tshirts and other logistics, and to top things off, you get a deal on the registration price.  After today the adult price jumps from $55 up to $70.

Here is the direct link to registration...

Just got this email from JL, I thought I'd pass it on to the forum so others can gently harass him about being so close for Labour Day and not dropping by...

Now up to 29 registered for Labour Day.  Looking forward to a bump up tonight as the early deadline approaches.  Also happy to report that both Rovers North and Atlantic British are supporting the event once again this year.  As is the Wolfville Lion's Club, Luckett Vineyards and Yum Bakery.  That is just the beginning.

36 registrants now, any guesses as to how many we'll have by the end of early registration tonight?  Don't forget, you get your name in the draw for a fabulous local prize package if you register early.  You also are guaranteed a t-shirt in your size included with your registration.  And most importantly, you make it really easy for Rosie and I to plan food and logistics in the lead up to the event.  Knowing how many peach streusel squares and how many rolls of toilet paper to have on hand for the weekend is exciting stuff!

EARLY REGISTRATION EXTENDED to Aug 10th, Labour Day 2012 - Gaspereau Valley
« Reply #12 on: August 09, 2012, 09:55:10 AM »
By the time I checked in this morning we had 44 early registrants for Labour Day 2012, a great start (last year on the 8th of August we had 33).  With the short turnaround on getting the registration page up, and early registration closing, I know it was a challenge, so as a bonus we are extending the early registration to August 10th, here is the link,http://www.cornerstone-studios.com/more/lr12/.

Make that 45, Kassiem Jacobs registered, he is located in Switzerland, and won't make it for the event, but as he did last year, really wants a tshirt.  (they really are great shirts, and I promise not to disappoint for this year, design is in the works.)

Improvement Ideas - Labour Day 2012 - Gaspereau Valley
« Reply #14 on: August 09, 2012, 11:01:26 AM »
After listening to the notes regarding Labour Day 2011 we are on the move to make improvements to this years event.  Some things may seem odd, like having less dessert, I know this sounds wrong to me, but with the abundance of last year, it makes sense.  We will be increasing the beef jerky quantities by 50%, and adding lights to the porta potties.  Reducing the amount of cucumber (that's for you John Cranfield, even if you don't make it this year), and increasing the bottled water on the trail.  Awards for the dishwashers are being seriously discussed, because those folks are amazing, and we do promise more dishtowels, dry dishtowels.  More refrigeration, more cutting boards, more large metal bowls and pans to hold hot food, more bbq flippers and tongs.

I would love to hear from you if there is anything we need more or less of, better, different?  Send me off an email with suggestions, praise, constructive criticism, rosvall@ns.sympatico.ca
