Well, I figure since I now have the engine sitting in the garage and I am super excited about it (only went out to look at it twice so far this evening), I'll start a thread for my conversion. I'm sure it will go on for a long time.

The engine showed up with a lot of extras that I feared might be missing. The exhaust downpipe, the bulkhead mounted fuel filter, the glow plug harness and relay. I even got a metal spout for a jerry can  All the hoses, even the power steering resevoir and coolant resevoir, the complete air filter housing, and the fan shroud. The radiator looks pretty old. Hopefully it has no leaks but I will have to keep in mind a replacement may be sooner than later. Things seemed relatively well packed and there is no evidence of shipping damage at all.

Speaking of packing, did Dingocroft do a fantastic job of packing the orders or what? Top marks for that.

Anyway, first question on the conversion - does anyone have an engine stand that I can borrow for a few weeks. I am changing the timing belt etc and don't really want to do it on the floor or hanging from a chain.

Did I mention I am excited??

Did you buy this 200tdi out of the UK from eBay or a known seller ?
Are you able to divuldge a ballpark price for a known good unit? (PM me if you like)
I am just curious. Not in the market (yet) OBVIOUSLY.
There is a guy just upriver from me selling a 2.25L Diesel for huge money. (well, he's asking huge money at any rate.) so
that's why I *think* bringing one in from the UK surely must be a better bet.
And it'll bolt right up to your bellhousing, right?

I'm excited just hearing about it !

(but the engine stand doesn't do too much for me... )

Niall, I have an engine stand sitting beside my garage that you are more than welcome to if you don't want to go all the way to Con's, and as I am basically in Norway until 2008 no fear in me needing it back.

I'm back next week but if you want it and would like it sooner let me know and I'll just let SWMBO (I love that one) know you are coming to get it.

I have the proper bellhousing for that engine if needed. It fits a standard Lt77 and has a 4 cyl bolt pattern.Good luck on the conversion. This engine should make you truck rock.

Thanks Mike, I think I will take you up on that offer given the cost of gas these days. Also, if you're away that much, can I get my 5 lugnuts back? I certainly HOPE to be back on the road before next year LOL

Well, I took a bit of a look-see today after work in the daylight. Took some pics. Will attach a few below as I still have no idea how to put them in the message

Couple of questions:

-From the pic, do you think I have a rear main leaking? The flywheel housing looks pretty dry and the oil seems to be on the outside only.

-How does the shifter knob on the LT77 attach? There are just two detents on the shifter rod, unlike the transfercase which is threaded.

The shifter fork looks good which is nice. Maybe it has been replaced. I also realised that he included the transfercase crossmember too which is awesome as it is different. I think I will def keep the LT230 now.

The radiator looks pretty beaten up and the fins feel very fragile on the front face. I think I am going to have to replace that  $$$

A few more pics:

The thing that looks like an oil return is odd.

The garage is now a (bigger) mess with two engines, and transmission, two transfer cases, canoe, truck, etc etc.

Niall,

Where is the other end of that oil return?
