New to us Rovers & Tomi Ungerer

We brought home two new part Rovers a couple of weeks ago, or so we thought. One is definitely destined to be parted out, the engine is already spoken for by Kris Lockhart for his son's future truck. The other has a bit of a history, so we aren't sure what will happen to it. Seems it belonged to Tomi Ungerer, a visual artist/illustrator who created children's books, ad images, political posters and erotica. He lived near Ben Pooley in the early to mid 70's, wrote a couple of books about his time in Nova Scotia. There is even a sketch of the truck in the book we have. Interesting guy, still living and working from his home in Ireland.
The truck sits amazingly tall and straight so it is hard to think about taking it apart. It was undercoated, and the doors even shut with a solid feel. We shall see.
If anyone knew of Tomi Ungerer during his time in NS, please drop me a line.

I stopped and looked at these Land Rovers 10 years ago. One was a good candidate for restoration. They were parked under some big oak trees looking proud and majestic. I see the for sale add said there is was Overdrive included. Likely needs new seal etc. after sitting for so long. The Ungerer book is an interesting view of time and place and his personal experience.

Yes, the overdrive was our main reason for making the purchase. Peter wanted it for the Series I. We have looked at those two Rovers since our arrival in NS back in 1998, and have stopped to talk to the owner's mother once or twice, but she always indicated that they weren't for sale. Things change, so when they came up on Kijiji we dropped by to check them out, not with great intentions of taking them home. The overdrive sealed the deal, so our Sunday drive turned into a Thursday Rover retrieval mission. Oh well, we have the space, and our neighbour Kris has already managed to get the engine in one running, heck, even the lights and radio all came on when it sputtered to life.
I haven't read the whole Tomi Ungerer book yet, but have flipped through it. Always interesting to see the perspective of someone coming into a community, although I've heard rumours that the long time residents weren't thrilled with Mr.Ungerer's writings about them.

It's good to see the rovers have found a home. I knew eventually someone would have them after years of sitting idle.
