As I alluded to in the Welcome forum, I've been putting some work into putting together a clubs list.   I'm going to update the LRFAQ.org site.  And I'm going to add page of clubs that no longer exist.

Does anyone here have any memories about the following clubs (when founded, when it died, if it had a newsletter and the name, if it had an email list, website, bylaws or elected officers, and any leading people).

Club des Land Rover de Quebec (I think it was founded in 1993, was known to be around in 1998 and gone bye 2006.  The old website was www.mediom.qc.ca/-cdenis/clrq.htm  )

Land Rover Club of New England and the Maritimes (this was something that Myles Murphy proposed in 1991 in an issue of the Aluminum Workhorse in 1991 with an organizational meeting planned for the 3rd DownEast Rally at Owlshead.  That is the only reference so I think the idea was still born)

M.O.R.E.:  Yes I know that we are here.  I've seen references back to 1987 and that it was resurrected in 1998.  So what can you tell about the early years and when it fell apart?

Newfoundland Rover Register:  The first references that I've seen were in 1992.  I think that it was still around in 2001, but gone by 2006 and that's all that I know about it.

What other clubs am I missing for QC, NB, NS and NF?

Other than ALROC, OVLR, TARC, Island Rovers, RoverLanders, ROAV, LROA, Minnesota LR, LR Register of Alberta, PCRC, Blue Ridge LRC, and Canadian Series I Club what other clubs are any of you aware of that existed before 1990 (and yes I've left a few out for which I have some minimal data)

Ben

If there are old newsletters, I'd like to get them scanned so that I can get them posted.  For example, we've gotten many of the ALROC Transfer Boxes up (work in progress):  http://www.roverweb.org/NL/ALROC/  along with the LROA Aluminum Workhorse:  http://www.roverweb.org/NL/LROA/AluminumWorkhorse.html   OVLR and RoverLanders have gotten their NLs up and I have most of the NLs from the dead Northern California Rover Club ready to go up.

Ben;  I'm not sure if your project is limited to North American clubs...
When I spent a few years back in UK in the 1960s - and caught the Land Rover bug -  there was an active "Land Rover Owners Club", which I think was run from Solihull.  I was a member from about 1963 until 1967 when I came to Nova Scotia (for a year to have a look, I thought.  Still here 43 years later!).  They organized trials and some good tours such as The Ridgeway and a Welsh mountain trip.  The Ridgeway is an ancient road used since prehistoric times.  I doubt if Land Rovers would be encouraged there now.
I don't know what happened to LROC.  The only relevant items  I have from those days is a handful of photos and maybe a few feet of 8mm movies of the trials.

Todd,

It was over 10 years ago. I am not even sure of the province. The MORE forum had a chat room. A fellow who was the only Land Rover owner around for some great distance started the club. He was running bio diesel. I think it disbanded when he moved to Toronto.

There was a club in Manitoba for a few years about 10-15 years ago although a former member I can't recall the exact name. It was started by an RCMP living in Powerview.

Yes I do remember, and if I dug deep enough in my files at home I could probably come up with his name etc.

Hej Mike,
it was actually 3 who started the club in the early 90's, Scott Sheppard, Cirk Harrold and myself. As you were a member you'll know that we had about 20-30 members at the time, some active some not but we did have a few outings that attracted about 5-7 trucks each time. The most interesting outing we had was when Ron organized the Trans America Tour. I still have the plate from that trip.

When Scott and I were transfered further out west, things fell to the side till only recently when the old club was resurrected. Cirk still has many of the news letters and his Land Rover collection still grows.

I wasn't sure who organized the Trans America tour but I remember meeting up with them when they stayed overnight in Kenora. I still have my plate too.

His name is on the tip of my tongue, but I can't remember. Gerald, you're correct that he had a lightweight.

Edit: I think his first name was Rick, but I could be way off.

Edit 2: Rick Pring I think is who we are thinking of.

I ran Montreal4x4.com and Quebec4x4.com, back in 98 -99 .. Quebec4x4 was picked up by Michel and he runs it has a pro jeep club in french, Quebec4x4 is quite popular and has a very good following in Quebec.

Montreal4x4, was another story,  not so fortunate.  I did not have the time to devote to the site.  Though it did quite well, getting about a 1k/month hits. It had a small following in Montreal, but had quite a few members from Europe, (Holland, France, UK, etc)  .Montreal4x4 was more of an online newsletter, running current and archive articles about Landrover offroading.  I took it offline, since I was doing the editing, publishing and all of the write ups and did not have any free time to do any offroading..  Quite a paradox actually!  Since the website was about promoting offroading, it actually sucked my offroading time dry

I still own about 6 or 7 different domains, which are dormant at the moment.  With a bit of luck and some free time, I would like to re-activate some of them and get more content on the net concerning rovers.
