Here is the announcement sent out about the event:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is something we never thought we'd be saying, but are more than happy
that we have the opportunity to do so - we are holding an On the
Road.Maine! Our thanks to Richard Chase for getting this in motion.

July 10 - 11. $465/vehicle includes both days and one or two adults in
vehicle. A 50% deposit on a Visa or MC debit or credit card will reserve
your spot on this rare Maine training event! J Call 970-858-3468 to
register.

Lewiston, ME - Directions to the property will follow with registration.

Bill will cover all aspects of recovery and technical driving that this
terrain allows. Each driver will receive a 40+ page handout packet.

All 4-wheel drive vehicles are welcome as long as you have a 2-speed
transfer case and frame-mounted recovery points (receiver hitch in the
rear and OE in the front).

A CB (handheld okay) is suggested, although not required.

All skill levels are welcome, from novices to highly experienced. Bill has
the unique ability to teach to everybody's skill level and will utilize
this terrain to do so.

Best regards,
Rachel

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We need to get at least 4 vehicles for this to happen.

It's an expensive world we live in.

How have you been? we've missed you at Romp the last couple of years.

Perhaps we we'll see you next year then, Valentines day is the Monday before Presidents Day so presumably the week before Romp.

Sorry if Bill Burke is anyones Hero, Best Friend, etc, but I don't quite see how teaching people to extract their 4x4 from a mud hole with a high lift jack deserves $930 a day (Based on 4 vehicles).

I'm sure it's not worth the money to everyone but checkout the videos here to see what he teaches:
http://www.bb4wa.com/media/video.html

You can also read all the testimonials on his site. You may think these are just what few people say but I've heard the same thing from every person I've ever talked to that has taken any of his training or been on expedition with him.

Anyway I'm just hoping he gets enough interest so I can take the class and not have to drive out west to do it.

Sorry Richard, I've had a tough couple of weeks at work and have been feeling over worked, underpaid, and decidedly under appreciated. I then fell foul of "posting while grumpy".

Apart from the cost, I am going to be busy that weekend. I hope you get enough interest to make this course happen.

Neil.

No problem, I can relate to "feeling over worked, underpaid, and decidedly under appreciated".

Aside from work how is everything?

I will have the plans for this falls trip up north finalized shortly and will send you the details when I have them.

First of all, I have to say WOW  to being part of such an event.  I would love to go but things are way to busy at work for me to even request time off     I am hoping that things slow down but there is no chance of that happening in the near future.  I asked my boss for a couple of hours off the other day, and got a blank look from her.....and she is working as many hours (if not more) than I am.
I was doing some vacation research earlier in the year in Moab, UT and the cost for this course (I don't think it was Bill Burke) was $1200USD.That was for just the course and did not include vehicle rental.  So $465 per vehicle may be alot for us Maritimers but really the cost of this event is quite reasonable.  Since I am still a novice at off roading and haven't got the experience I would like, I really wish I could go.     I would need to at least have Friday off to be able to make the trip.....hmmm.... I will ask for the time off.... ....doubt it will happen but I will definitely be inquiring.....bosses aren't allowed to beat you, are they????    Sorry- I think Tony's ADD is wearing off on me
I am going to see if I can get the time off, Richard.  Tony has done an amazing job on getting my Disco back up to snuff.  We off roaded her pretty hard and have done absolutely no maintenance to her since we bought it 2 years ago.  He still has a fair amount to do but I have complete faith in him.  I won't leave you hanging and will let you know in a few days if I can get the time off.
Again, thanks for organizing such a great event!!!

I think there are members of this board who will attest to the value of following proper high-lift technique. I'd love to take one of Bill's classes.
