I picked up an old compressor @ 35 cents a pound. clean as a whistle inside, no sign of damage.  I can't find any infomation about it on-line. Was it originally for air or an old refrigeration compressor? it has some markings.  ie. Made in the Uninted States and some numbers as seen in the photo's. Anyone have experience with similar compressor?

It appears to be a 2 stage compressor so it's not likely to have been a fridge unit.
If it does actually pump air you may have a good find.

It does pump air

There seem to be 4 ports in the head, 2 in use with the current configuration.

So, clean it, change the oil, put on an air intake filter, find a 1 or 2  hp motor, a pressure tank and some valves,
pipe, hose and fittings, pressure switch etc. (a trip to Princess Auto) and it should be good to go. Motor RPM's might be an issue.

Its likely intended for the standard 1725 RPM motor and 3 -4 inch pulley.
The 2 ports are one intake into the larger cylinder and outlet from the smaller one.
They do it this way to make getting a good pressure with decent airflow easier.
Pump a larger volume of air into the smaller cylinder which boosts the pressure.
