I found this really interesting, it is 38 minutes long but has some really good footage.  Would love to find the original tv series which aired after they completed on the BBC.

Being on dial-up I can't watch the video, but could this be what you're looking for?

The book was a good read.  The DVD that Graeme put together using the original footage was enjoyable as well.

I found an original copy of the book from 1957 in England.  I had it shipped to me costing a total of 10 pounds including the book.  I read half of it in one sitting.  Thanks for the info guys!!

My Dad got a copy from the book club in the 1950s so i have read it many times over the years. As time passes the chance of repeating the journey has become more and more politically impossible. So much for progress!

There is a team with replica vehicles that is going to attempt the journey again this year:

The biggest issues will be the political elements in Burma.  I've read of groups attempting to get on that section of road and being turned back by the government/drug lords.  It seems that this team thinks that they have a solution.    Iraq and Iran may also be impediments.
