First off, no matter what you heard, the tree was asking for it.
As one of my friends put it, only Coleen can get into a car accident 3 days before Christmas and walk away leaving the car totalled.
Yesterday, (Dec 22) on my way to work, I was in a single vehicle accident with my Saturn.  As anyone who knows me, knows how much I love my car.  The off ramps had not been plowed or salted or sanded.  I lost control of the car right at the top of the ramp and went into the ditch.  Pretty freaking scary.  As soon as I touched the brakes, there was no control to the vehicle.  Thank goodness I have experience in off roading, although I have never been off roading at highway speeds.
A good samaritan drove by and stopped to help me out of the ditch.  I caught his first name but not his last.    Thank you so much David!!!!      When he stopped, he locked up his car and skidded about 20 feet.  Another car stopped as well and asked if I needed assistance but the RCMP were arriving.  Whoever you were, thank you ma'am!
When the police arrived, the cop car went skidding about 10 feet after it locked up.  The police officer looked at the marks on the road and asked if I was ok and who was coming to get me.  Of course, my heros Tony and Sherman arrived a few minutes later with the tow truck.  Of course, the plow and salt trucks showed up after the Mounties arrived.     I have never seen an off ramp so well plowed, salted and sanded.  I wonder if the police car had anything to do with that
Tony jumped in the Saturn and she started right up.  Figuring that she was as tough as a Land Rover, Tony figured it was mostly cosmetic damage and we towed it home.  I called work and advised I would NOT be coming in.  After talking to me, my boss figured she really didn't want to see me since I was quite hyper and probably not making alot of sense.  She said she got car accident and think I am ok and that was all that made sense.  Even though I talked for about 10 minutes.
My car came home and went on the hoist.  I am sure Tony will post pics later but let me tell you, the damage was immense.  There is a huge hole under the drivers side floor (that stupid tree)  and the frame is bent.  Saturns are mostly co-polymer (i.e plastic) so the front and rear bumpers are gone.  The front drivers side tire is at an angle not conducive to road travel as is the rear passengers tire.
So far, I seem to be ok.  A bit sore but hitting a ditch at 45mph will do that to you.  Now I am car shopping.  Tony is having so much fun.     Even though it supposed to be my car.
I want to thank Costable Bedard for his hard work as well as the rest of the 911 team .  We forget how hard these people work.  Also thank you to the people who stopped for no other reason than someone was off the road.  What a great place to live!!!
Hopefully everyone on the forum and friends and family will be careful and safe.  I really want this to be the only post on an accident we see for a long time.
Merry Christmas to everyone and love to all!

Coleen,

It is great you are only sore and not otherwise hurt. My condolences about the Saturn, but it did protect you.

Merry Christmas.

As Gerald said, the car did its job. Glad you're alright. Try to have a less eventful Christmas!

She did do a great job and not too many people can say that they loved their car even after 5 1/2 years of driving it and still getting 35 mpg.
I will miss her a lot and I am so thankful that she kept me safe right up to the last moment.
I am going to try to have a less eventful holiday.   I am sure Tony will keep me out of trouble.

Hi All

we are still waiting for the insurance adjuster to come and have a look at the car.

Here are some pictures of the damage.

There dosent look like alot of damage but there is enough to wright off the car according to the insurance adjustor once he was told what damage there was to the car .He is also pretty sure it WONT be fixed.

Coleen dosent seem any worse for wear other than her pride .

I think the big thing with her is the care was her first and this was alos her first accident.

She will get past this and moove on once she gets her new car.

I have been looking at the new free style and the new fusion

Im still doing my home work on these two to see if there are any problems that we should be awair of before we decide to buy.

Maybe i can convince her to buy the new mustang
