I had to laugh at the last line I heard a guy say:
"Dude, I don't want him to mess this truck up" 

I am thinkin'..........UHhhh...........TOO LATE !   

I am admittedly probably the most green  off roader here on the forum, though I did play a bit off road in the 80's.

I have to ask, then.  Why wouldn't they have tugged it out backwards? Wouldn't THAT be the most correct thing to do, given
what they were driving into?

In the longer version they try that and it doesn't work.

I'm still confused how they managed to rip the front axel off though!

Neil,

I think they were pulling on the frame, and the right front wheel was stuck enough that they pulled the truck over it, ripping the mounting points.
