Does anyone know how to get short term auto insurance in the UK if you don't have a UK drivers licence?

I would check with CAA. You probably have to get an International Drivers License which they can arrange for you.

Hi there, here are just a few of the insurance companies in th UK that are offering short term insurance, the AA actually states for overseas visitors, so is geared up for you already, but the other 2 are worth a look to see the various different cost options, hope this helps, Cheers CC   www.theaa.com/insurance/short-term-car-insurance.html   www.ecarinsurance.co.uk  DailyCover.co.uk

I've checked with all three of those daily coverage companies and they will cover Canadian drivers licences.

In some but not all countries here in Europe, you can drive on your drivers license for up to one year.  Why are you looking for short term coverage? If you are hiring the supplier will provide you with the necessary coverage during your time there.

The Canadian licence is good to drive with and I can buy a car with it, I can also get 12 months auto insurance for $4500 which is too much when I only spend one to two months a year in the UK.  Right now I've been offered a great condition 200tdi RR that I want to buy and keep here for my visits instead of dealing with the rental car again (this time the rental has been hit and run three times and the number plates where stolen on xmass eve).  The short term companies that I've talked to will insure anyone but Aus, USA, and Canada... I don't know why.

I ended up getting 12 months insurance for 667 pounds and I can cancel it and get the reminder back when I'm done.

if your ever stuck for a rover to off road in the UK, i am going to start renting them soon on a daily/weekly rate. If you get to the Hertfordshire region in your RR, i will happily take you out lanning and to a nice pub afterwards.
