Splendid,
Wish I had some video. We had lots of 3' drifts, no problem.
I have the hydraulic chute rotater which is the cats ass.

THEN! I picked up a big rock and BOOM!, blew out the gearbox on the blower.
Royally pissed I opted for the fireplace and a drink so I havn't even looked at it yet.

On the whole though, it's the only way to move snow.

Would really like to get a blower for my tractor, but due to there always been rocks in the driveway that seem to creep up from under the earth, I have resigned myself to my two 7' Blades.

Had lots of fun with my tractor this weekend, the front and back blade combination work awesome. Just have to have somewhere to put the snow and I have quite a big property so have lots of space to push the snow out of the way.

Also my ring chains are awesome, the traction is fantastic.

It's not the shear pin, it's somthing nasty, dumping the gear oil spells trouble.

Ken and Ben for that matter.
I'm not sure a blower would work as well with a gear drive tractor.
Especially the 8N with no low range.
I've done a LOT of blowing with a David Brown 885, lots of work.

The Kubota with it's hydrostatic drive is just so nice.

That sucks Pete.  How big was the rock?  I have a gravel driveway at the B&B

Yes, the 8N really needs a low range.  I have a Sherman under/overdrive  box, but not
installed yet, though I think the "low" in those is not very low. 

Is the DB 885 a 12 speed?  My DB 3800 is only 6 speed, but considerably lower than the 8N.
But we have the rock hazard too - I have a bag of shear pins for our walk-behind blower.

The biggest issue with old tractors of the 8N age is the lack of a 2 stage clutch or separate PTO clutch. If you have a 2 stage clutch a la David Brown you can pause forward/rearward motion while the blower clears.

Yes, a very good point, John.  I really appreciate that on the David Brown vs the 8N, in spite of the fact that my pto clutch doesn't disengage!  At least it keeps driving when pausing motion.

Looks like January or february is the earliest I can get a blower ordered in    Even called the factory in Quebec and they have none is stock at present.

On another note, gearboxes are definitly in short supply......

That's what I have found, Con. All the local farm equipment dealers are sold out, or are keeping their stock of blowers for customers that buy tractors. They are looking at deliveries in mid-to-late January. Most manufacturers are running out of gearboxes which is limiting their ability to manufacture. Due to last year's incredible snowfall in this area everyone is hanging onto their snow removal gear.

Princess Auto has a sale on snowblower bevel drive gearboxes. They looked decent, could not figure out if they were chinese or surplus.

Well JL, with the shortage, I decided to wait and see what the market does in the spring. For now though, I retired my old 10HP blower, ( I'll sell it one I get the carb fixed ) and last night bought another bigger walk behind from the John Deere dealer.  It'll do where I can't get with the bucket of the tractor.
