Again, I'm building a SI hybrid - on a shortened and modified RR chassis, with bobbed SI 88" body and 24 spline running gear.  Here are some pics from this weekend when it rolled triumphantly out of the garage.  Resto projects are always so much more fun after this point!

A great looking set up there Dave.
That series 1 is going to have a great suspension set up, I can't wait til we see it on the trials. I suspect that it will be unstoppable.

Dave, can you give us the plans for the drivetrain? I'm thinking you were thinking of the same thing Peter was thinking, a 4.3L with a 5 speed...

I'll be using the NV3550 like Pete, but I'll likely stick with a Dodge engine rather than buy the extra 4.3 adapter. The 3.7s are inexpensive for low mileage units (the same cost as a 4.3) and I can likely just buy a complete lump - engine and trannsmission. If I could afford it, the Jeep Liberty CRDiesels are starting to show up in the wrecker inventory which would be cool. But, definitely not now. The truck is very small and I expect with the FI engine that I'll be doing ok for mileage. The 210hp will be fun too. The NV3550 to series t-case adapter is just coming to market now, which is good timing. I won a nice looking hydroboost on ebay yesterday, which will also get grafted on.

Dave,

I just talked to Matt at AA.
Further delays, they're looking at mid December now.

Cheers

Things are going well.  Bobbed body (narrowed/shortened SIII tub, SI hardtop, SIII fenders) is mostly cleaned up, needing only some holes patched before paint - and cutouts/mounts for Defender flares. Galv blukhead is done.  Custom low profile pedal towers (through the top instead of bottom) are done, complete with hydroboost.  Brakes are being plumbed now.  Needs drivetrain and electrics. It'll have Chev 4.3 tbi w/balance shaft to R380 and LT230.  THe latter will be here this weekend, and the engine is nearby.  It'll all fit somehow.  I will probably take time to install an internal cage too. I might have a 4.0, some Disco bits, RR 3.54s etc to sell after that accumulated during the project.  Hope everyone is doing well! Dave

Did you make your own adapter?
I'm about to give up on Advance Adapters so am looking at options.

I'm curious which r380 you are using. Is this the short bellhousing one designed for the 4 cylinder?

Pete,

If you are willing to run an NV4500 I can make an adapter. I got one out of NY state for $500 with 60K miles on it, using car-part.com

Plans changed, partly because of what was available.  I'm using an R380 from a V8 Disco, but with some bits coming from Ashcroft (input shaft, short bellhousing) to convert it to the (far) shorter 4 cyl setup. Then, I'm using a Scotty's adapter.  Almost ten years ago, I came across one and gave it away when I didn't have the expertise or inclination to use it.  Thankfully its owner has agreed to return the favour - and obviously it's still yet to be married to a vehicle.  As it turns out, the R380 and LT230 came locally from a low mileage parts Disco at the right price.

Cheers, Dave
