110 & Lightweight

« on: September 14, 2008, 08:17:21 PM »

Over the next few months I plan to get back to my younger days running the back roads in Inverness and Richmond county. A quick drive out the Crandall road yesterday showed me alot has changed in just a few short years  . The purpose is to find and plan an off road and back road adventure for M.O.R.E. members. I invite imput from anyone wishing to participate in this little trip. The roads are their most challenging in the spring of the year. I took an ambulance through one looking for an ATV accident once, my partner and the unit were never the same again  . The comms officer was confused    because the road didn't show on his map and the AVL showed us in the woods (ooops, true).  to follow over the next few months.

Set backs....set backs. I think I broke something.........yup, that load bang, followed by nasty noises.....I broke something in the rear axel the other day      . It might be a while before I get out exploring the dirt.

That's no good mate, I hope it's not too serious.

I suspect a differential, or maybe the U-joint going south.  If you still have mobility it's not the half shaft.

The bad news.....I broke the crown and the pinion gears (big chunks of gear pieces in the oil when I drained it)  . The good news....everything else appears to be OK and I have another diff (one Con rebuilt for me about 8 years ago)  . I just need to find the time to put it back together. Shelley is getting    to back road (a  spouse just might give me the incentive).

I thought the lightweight splines would be different (24 spline  ), but the inside ends are the same as a standard axel. Lucky for me  .

OK.. Shelley is really starting to  and  , I need to replace the dif ASAP. I managed to get the next 3 days off (vacation time) and that means not a chance for work to recall me  . I have a pile of wood to stack and then I can work on the lightweight

Lauchie,
you'll see that replacing the diff is really a cinch to do. ....... Don't tell Shelley that though, you will have more time to do other things with the Lwt. Once your tired or finished for the day, you can go in the house and tell her how hard a job it was.

No chance of that Todd. Shelley wants to be up to her elbows in grease as well. She wants to help me replace the diff. On one hand it's great  , but then how do I spend some time alone under my lightweight    . Before long she'll be watching and telling me everything I'm doing wrong  .

The time has come to plan a little back road trip. Anybody want to check out Creignish rear ..... maybe even go to Robert Walkers in Glencoe  (see if he'll sell some of his rover parts    ). I'll be in Halifax next Sunday and plan to meet up with Chad in the afternoon. I'll bring my back road maps if anyone else want to show up. I'll post the time when Chad and I are meet. Everyone welcome.

Bimble + Urban dictionary =    To amble without real aim, yet in a friendly and harmless manner. It's not required to acheive nothing, though it is a frequent side effect. Bimbling can be made a little more business like with a slight hunch of the shoulders.

Yes, I like that, I think I'll use it.  Thanks!
