110 & Lightweight

Where do I go from Here? I traveled to Houston, Tx and returned to with a respectable lightweight. My first change was to replace the military canvas with a civilian one (roll up sides) and removed the 2 side facing seats to make way for a roll bar and a jeep style seat with modern belts for the kids. I 've started getting the lightweight ready for the MVI by replacing the muffler and windshield. The frame repair may take a little longer (mechanic moves at the speed of Bud.....that's Budweiser). He does excellent work though! Should I remove the left gas tank ? I have a seatbox from my S2 project painted and ready to install. It has a perfect tool cuddy under the left seat. Tomorrow I plan to change the tires. I want to put a set of narrower / higher (2") ones on the lightweight. I have the tires on my S2 project frame along with a set of Rocky Mountain parabolics. I plan to use as much of the S2 project as I can to upgrade the lightweight. Does anyone know if an S3 steering relay (box) will fit a lightweight ?

The Series III steering relay will fit a lightweight (Series II, IIA, or III). Don't get rid of the lightweight bits that you take off. They are worth a lot of gold.

Thanks Chris. I plan to keep all the bits I take off. Somebody, somewhere will probably be in need.

Changing over to the Parabolic springs will make a nice difference to ride comfort and of course help with it's performance off road. Look forwards to seeing more pictures, especially with the new tires installed. Todd.

The best laid plans of mice and men! Nothing accomplished today. Shelley had 2 appointments that were very important . While I was making my way home to change the lightweight tires at lunch.....BEEP....BEEP....BEEP! The fire pager went off . While at the fire....ring....ring....ring. The cell phone, Paul (glass man) calling to remove a windshield from a car for me . While removing the windshield....ring ....ring ....ring, the cell phone again . No progress on the lightweight today. Tomorrow will be a bust as far as working on the lightweight as well. I'm going to the car auction in Lower Sackville and will be bringing LR parts to Con, Jim, and Kenneth . It looks like Thurs before I'll get any more done to the lightweight!

Good day today, all in all. Got the lightweight up on a hoist and looked over by a mechanic. Problem areas: 1) Frame rear crossmember up tp rear shackles 2) Rear left axel seal 3) Front axel seals. The rest of the rover is fit for the road. I did strip some of the Rhino liner away from the footwells to discover water build up and rust . The bulkhead is still solid and a good cleaning and fresh paint shoud take care of it. I then decided to strip as much of the Rhino lining as possible from the usual problem areas, i.e. anywhere there's steel. Yup! Rust, but all of it can be cleaned, no perforation. I then tackled removing the radio gear, antenna leads, etc.....BEEP.....BEEP.....BEEP.....Fire pager for Jaws of Life at an MVC . The radio gear will have to wait for another day.

Lauchie:
That is why I love Rust Check/Crown, just leaves a film and nothing to trap water.
Sounds like you are having loads of fun.
Ever think of getting all your metal parts galvanized ???
Argos in Burnside does a super job. Its actually cheaper than paint and it gets inside and out.
Thank you for the tailgate, picked it up from Jim. Whoever built it did a fantastic job.
Thanks once again
Kenneth

I have considered that Ken . I think I'll wait until I change it over to a new frame. My mechanic / welder is going to patch the frame temporarily until I can swap it out. I've decided to put it on the galvanized civilian frame I have for my S2 project. Con and I worked out a tentative schedule for finishing the motor and when it's ready I'll have a rolling chassis with everything but the body, ready to go. The S2 project has the galvanized frame, rebuilt axels, rebuilt trans / transfer case, motor (at Cons), parabolis springs, new tires and a new wiring harness (All S3). Where's a good place to buy axel seals?

Thanks Tony. I may as well replace them all. The front 2 are not too bad, but the mechanic suggested replacing them any way. The left rear is definitely leaking, oil on the inside of the rim and if I replace the left rear, I might as well replace the right rear. I need 2 for the front and 2 for the rear. PM me your phone number and I'll give you a call after I get off work this evening .

You might wnt to check the distance dieces that the seals run on they might be bad as well. Also check you alxe breathers if they are plugged your hub seal will leak because of the build up of pressure in the alxe housing
